Clean pin on computer hardware using an eraser

Many of computer component is made from metal material that can’t resist to corrosion. Corrosion happen when a metal material get changes in temperature and time. To minimize possibility of corrosion some parts are coated with gold because gold material is only metal that can resistant to corrosion. You can see on a old computer especially on mainboard there is a lot of part has coated with gold. Note on RAM an PCI or IDE slot you can see a gold color on it.

Nowadays computer part is still coated with gold material, but the size has been greatly reduced in thickness so corrosion problem it is possible to happen. When it’s happen definitely will affect
computer performance, sometime make a computer can’t running well or even more severe computer can’t boot.

A lot of computer problem is happen because the RAM, PCI-E, IDE both slot and pin of this part has a corrosion. And the simple way to detect a corrosion is notice the color of a RAM or PCI pin if its has a color change more dark or dirty.

Look at the picture below, you can see that PCI pin has a corrosion.

And if it happen you can use an eraser to clean it, but remind that do not use rough material to clean it like sandpaper or an eraser that has a rough material. use a rough material to clean a gold plated device on computer can remove gold material from it because it has abrasive.

To clean a RAM or PCI pin , you should use an soft eraser, sometime an eraser has two tip. the soft tip is using to clean a pencils and the other tip is very abrasive, so you can use it to clean a ballpoint ink on a paper.

Gently rub the eraser on a pin RAM or PCI until it clean. and then you can put the device back to the computer. So when your computer has a problem like beep sound or the graphic won’t display rightly, try to clean your pin RAM or VGA card. I have already try this so many times and its work perfectly.

You can apply this tips not only on a computer device, but you can use this way to clean other part like on a handphone PCB or TV remote control and many more.
